So this ticket, and me getting tired of seeing too a lot of spam on the infra side has taken me down the rabbit hole that is spamassassin + spam filtering. I have reviewed our current setup and I have identified a problem with the hosts querying various block lists and being denied.

I have 2 of the spamassassin cluster hosts setup to use a different dns resolver and it allows them to query against the blocklists now and more emails *should* be flagged as spam now. I am going to let them settle overnight and monitor resource usage, and tackle getting the new dns stuff in config management tomorrow.
