Slow query, most time spent in HDFS

Attached is the log for a slow query that is spending most time in hdfs.
The data is only 2MB spread over many files (lots of partitions over 72
hosts) - but we have similar issues with larger tables.

Is there a way to get more insight into how hdfs is being interacted with?
We're pretty sure there is an hdfs issue, but wondering if impala provides
more details so we can narrow down the cause.
