"Anchor to......" in ooo writer
Pleasecan anyone help?
I have sent this message three times over the last 8 weeks to
ooo-users@incubator.apache but have not received any response. If I am
doing something wrong, please could someone tell me what I am doing
wrong and what I should do to get a response???
I have been creating a 16 page brochure for my company. This has
involved copying background picturesand text boxes with shaded, partly
transparent backgrounds etc. I had to move backgrounds from one page
to another but each time, the "anchor to" became a major problem as it
changed to paragraph every time it was moved to another file and each
item has to be manually changed to "page" in order to enable me to put
the item where I wanted it on the page, which was very time consuming.
Is there a way to either set this permanently "Anchor to Page" or
deactivate it for the current session?
Kind regards
David

With a search in my mails I finally found your post. You have not made a
new post, but wrote into an existing thread. Each mail has an internal
number, which identifies the mail. This number is included in the answer
and so your mail was not treated as "new" mail, but as answer to a very
different thread and not noticed.
Put the address ooo-users@incubator.apache.org into your address book,
then it is easier to write a new mail.

Copy from where to where?

Perhaps you do not mean "background"? A background is part of the page
style. You mean a picture with lays behind the text?
the "anchor to" became a major problem as it

Moving an anchor to another _file_? I do not understand.

For a flyer "anchor to page" is OK, but for a 16 page long text, I think
it is not the best way of anchoring.

When you insert the picture from file, you can choose the style
"watermark", which will anchor the picture to page.
If you use the clipboard and copy/paste inside the document or from
odt-file to odt-file, the anchor type is preserved. Are you using
another file type for your brochure?
Kind regards

I see you message, so your email made it through. Unfortunately I
don't know enough about OO to answer you question. Perhaps someone
more knowledgeable can help.

Could you please be more specific in what this brochures
contains? Your description of what is contained in these boxes is rather
general in nature. For example this phrase: "background picture and text
boxes with shaded, partially transparent backgrounds, etc." Then you
mention having to move a background. What background do you mean? You
have already mentioned the term background twice.
When I anchor things, I use "anchor as character" in an empty
paragraph. With this, I can keep a given figure next to the text with
which it is associated. If I need to move it from one page to another, I
create an empty paragraph where I want to move the figure. Then I the
cut and paste it. (It pastes anchored as a character.)
When I anchor a figure, frame, or table, I create a paragraph
style for the empty paragraph. I define the style so that the object is
placed horizontally where I want it.

No, the default for new inserted graphics is anchor to paragraph; but
when you copy and paste a graphic, the graphic's anchor is preserved (at
least in OpenOffice 3.4.1, where I'm testing it right now with your
document http://www.yousendit.com/download/TEhXTG16TStrUmtaQ2NUQw
I can copy the main background image and paste it in the same document
or a new one, and the anchor is always set to page.
A simple test:
- copy and paste your image: the new image is anchored to page
- insert a new image: it's anchored at paragraph
- insert a page break and paste your image: the new image is anchored at
page
So, when you copy and paste, the anchor gets preserved. When you insert
a new image, the default is anchor to paragraph. The workaround, if you
use the same picture, is to set the anchor at page, and then copy it and
paste it.
Another point, if this graphics is the background, why don't you set it
as page background? And I'm not sure if a text document is good for this
task, may be a drawing document is more suitable.

Are you saying that each of the 16 pages is a separate file? If so, why?
