Checking for External Changes "Suspended"

Hi,

This has been driving me insane for a long time, but it seems as if its gotten progressively worse in later versions of NetBeans.
I’m on the verge of dumping netbeans because this is such a pain.

On Mac OS X running 11.2.3 (Big Sur) and earlier versions, for some reason that I cannot explain, netbeans will often have a process that effectively locks one of my CPU cores at 100%

At the bottom of the netbeans window is this :

I’ve seen several suggestions on various platforms (and this problem has been mentioned for some time) I’ve tried both solutions suggested here, neither makes any difference.

The clearing of cache works (for a short period) but within a few hours, the problem returns.

https://bz.apache.org/netbeans/show_bug.cgi?id=258225 (from 2016)

If you try and close the message by clicking the “x” it does go away, however, within a few seconds returns.

De-selecting the “enable auto-scanning of sources” does solve the immediate problem of the message disappearing, but I don’t think its a good solution.

Would it not make sense for this process to timeout after a few seconds, instead of holding onto a CPU?

Kind Regards,
