[jira] [Created] (HIVE-2982) When using Inputsplits that don't extend FileInputSplits, hive attempts to create a Path with an empty string which will always crash.

Tristan Buckner created HIVE-2982:
-------------------------------------

             Summary: When using Inputsplits that don't extend FileInputSplits, hive attempts to create a Path with an empty string which will always crash.
                 Key: HIVE-2982
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HIVE-2982
             Project: Hive
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: StorageHandler
    Affects Versions: 0.7.1
            Reporter: Tristan Buckner
            Priority: Minor

The method org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.io.HiveInputFormat$HiveInputSplit.getPath() attempts to create a Path with an empty string:

public Path getPath() {
  if (inputSplit instanceof FileSplit) {
    return ((FileSplit) inputSplit).getPath();
  }
    return new Path("");
  }

Path doesn't take null or an empty string so this means crash if not FileSplit.

I'm not sure if some other random string would be appropriate or fix this.
