Error during checkout

Hello,

I am using subversion on a Suse Linux 9.1 machine together
with appache 2. On the client side I'm employing TortoiseSVN
on winxp (however this seems to be a server-side problem).
The repos has been set up recently.
After a few revisions a "checksum error" occurred with checkout. A new 
checkout on a different machine failed after issuing messages like
"/svn/XYZ/!svn/vcc/default invalid XML 2964001"
or
"Invalid diff stream: insn 11830 cannot be decoded"

Does anybody have an idea what is going on here and what to do?
