App Server and Web Server on 2 different machines?

Hi,

I have a quick question regarding whether or not it is possible to install
an App server such as Tomcat on a completely different machine than the Web
Server (such as IIS), or does it have to be installed on the same machine as
the web server?  Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
