But I suspect it's not the same error. Actually I even suspect that we reported 3 differents errors here, except if there are accents in Italian too (like é, è, ... in French), but I guess there are none.

To recap: all PDF rendering is broken in the 9.04 branch, and this is not related to invalid XML characters, but has something to do with the macro screen rendering.

I've took a quick look to this problem, it seems that the error is coming from the labels in the forms, which contain an "é" and which are not interpreted by FOP.
