Splitting rows and columns

I have a very complex spreadsheet on which to input much data.
When working on a spreadsheet (calc) in AOO, how does one freeze the
headers of the row or column so that one can scroll to up and down, or
right and left and keep track of the correct title of that cell so
appropriate data is entered? This is particularly needed when the
spreadsheet involves multiple pages and columns.

Fabulous, thank you so much. Someone also wrote to me off list and
explained how to use the help text, that's the "?" on the tool bar. Very
useful info, I'll be using in future.
