I didn't see an immediately obvious way to get an archive; is there one? I
really need a large corpus and I'd prefer to get it in some sort of archive

Looks like you can get a monthly mbox archive of a public list from
(for example) http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/struts-dev/200712.mbox
