Dir Sir,

I am a final year computer science and engineering student who is studying
at University of Moratuwa Sri lanka, I am interested in applying a proposal
for a java based project. And i used apache FTP server in my training place.
It was a great experience and i would like to submit a proposal regarding a
improvement (Add a new feature ). Since i am a beginner i need some help
from devs. Regarding my technical back ground , I am familiar with java
based technologies and project built tools. Please be Kind enough to send

Sir ;
Actually i meant to go from existing issue. Most probably implementing a new
feature.I liked to work with Apache FTP server project or Apache Asyncweb
project. It will be help full for me to some body suggest a idea about a new
feature .so that i can proceed with it to create a good proposal.
(As i see, in most of organizations they put some project ideas list for the
gsoc ,so that students begins to proceed with them )
Thanks.

As i figure out in other apache projects they have listed some project
ideas (community) on issue tracking system and students are working on those
project ideas. Actually i am also willing to work on such a idea where a
mentor is willing to share the experience.

Don't know. You'd have to ask on community@ or something similar.
At first, proposals where drafted on the wiki. Assignment was easy.
Then it was tagged JIRAs, which mentors could take over.

At least in the years before, they could. A student proposing her own
project is seen as a plus.

The ASF has not yet started the work on project proposals for GSoC.
But, judging from previous years, I believe the process is the other
way around. That is, a mentor proposes a project and students can
apply for these projects. Not sure if students can propose projects on
their own.

That said, having an interested student around is a good thing in case
someone wants to mentor a project.
