convert excel .xls to .csv

Anyone know of a way to convert a file of .xls extension to .csv ?

Using MS Excel, when you have the *.xls sheet on your screen, select  "Save
As"...then under File Type, select CSV (comma-delimited).

Note that only the worksheet on your screen at the time will be saved in the
csv format.

I presume you mean without Excel ....

Various spreadsheets apart from Excel read and write both xls and csv, Lotus
123 for instance

Or maybe xls and csv are some part of J2EE I haven't learnt about yet ...
