The code from the above comment:

    private PoolKey getPoolKey(String username) {
        PoolKey key = null;

        if (username != null && (perUserMaxActive == null 
                || !perUserMaxActive.containsKey(username))) {
            username = null;
        }

    "It appears that this "if" should just be removed."

was a left over from Jdbc2PoolDataSource and should have been removed, so the
suggestion was followed.
