URI parameter after ? in xslt ??

I have a file named abc.xml, it's a xml file. In cocoon, abc.html is given as source. So when I
invoke in a browser the file abc.html, the abc.xml is processed via a abc.xsl stylesheet.

Now I need to invoke the file in the browser as abc.html?p=1 and need to have the value 1 of the
parameter p as a global variable?

How to do this? I'v looked A LOT in the WWW, but I couldn't find anything.

That's really helpfull, but one error is in it:
It must not be a variable, but a parameter in the stylesheet:

<xsl:param name="parametername">/</xsl:param>

Now the value of the parameter parametername of the request
http://ser.ver/file.htm?parametername=xyz
is usable in the stylesheet.

I'm really surprised of a lot of posting to this problem in the mailing list which are all less or more
wrong.

Thank you for your answer - the first one which pointed me in the right direction.
In the mailing list archives is a lot of discussion, but nothing usable about this question, some
things are really wrong.
One problem remains though, the variable remains empty.

I have to try a little bit, but use-request-parameters is the right direction.

Merry xmas!
