is this a valid issue

Hey,
I'd like to say hello to everyone here,

I am trying to build the project, run the unit tests and I noticed the build fails with python3, it only works with python2

I have created an issue about it and submitted a patch https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/ATLAS-1515
I am new to this, not sure if this is a valid issue/patch.

Could someone please confirm this is a valid issue or advise me how to handle such issue?
