Note that reverting will actually be another form of regression, as the API to build project models will then send errors in some cases when it shouldn't; and some model would have pomFile set to null when the modelSource actually has all pom infos.

IMO, reverting is not the right approach, and the current state of Maven is more correct from API POV. Reverting reduces quality of the library.
