limited success

Been trying to read a Word document into memory and write it back out again.
I have limited success to report. I can do it with Word document created in
WordPerfect but then it won't open in Word. If I do it with a Word document
created in Word. It opens in Word but I lose some formatting properties, and
it won't open in WordPerfect.

You should check with Star/Open Office.
