Hi Clay, and thank you for answering.
I see you're using Oak version 1.4.1, and your code looks similar to mine.
In fact, my problem came out while trying to upgrade from OAK 1.5.4, which
worked fine, to 1.5.10.
I can see that change in MongoDocumentStore was introduced in 1.5.6, so I
guess that is the version that broke my startup. I can of course continue
using 1.5.4, but I'd like to upgrade to take advantage of all the recent
fixes and improvements.

Hi Giovanni,

can you please create a JIRA issue [0] for this problem? I assume
you are referring to OAK-4111 when you mentioned a change in
MongoDocumentStore in 1.5.6.

Please also provide details on your setup, like version of the
MongoDB Java Driver and MongoDB itself. Thanks!
