[lucy-issues] [jira] Commented: (LUCY-122) Lucy Incubator Software Grant

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LUCY-122?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=12920789#action_12920789 ]

Marvin Humphrey commented on LUCY-122:
--------------------------------------

It is my understanding that the following parties now have grant forms on
file in the Foundation repository:

    * Father Chrysostomos
    * Miles Crawford
    * Eventful, Inc.
    * Geeknet, Inc.
    * Marvin Humphrey
    * Peter Karman
    * Nathan Kurz
    * Online Highways, LLC
    * Dobrica Pavlinusic
    * Socialtext, Inc.
    * Murray Walker
    * Nick Wellnhofer

Other parties have reportedly taken action with regards to their SGA forms
(e.g. sent them in by mail), but those are the parties with grants which have
been committed to the Foundation repository.

The following contributors do not yet have an acknowledged SGA on file, but
their contributions are owned by Geeknet, which does:

    * Chris Nandor

The following contributors do not yet have an acknowledged SGA on file, but
their contributions are owned by Socialtext, which does:

    * Luke Closs
    * Andy Lester
    * Matthew O'Connor

We do not yet have acknowledged SGA forms to cover contributions by the
following individuals -- but collectively, they are credited for a total of
4 commits (out of ~7000):

    * Scott Beck (2506)
    * Simon Cozens (2305, 2307)
    * Darian Anthony Patrick (4513)

Based on this tally, I believe that we may move forward:

    http://incubator.apache.org/guides/mentor.html#initial-import-code-dump

    For contributions composed of patches from individual contributors, it is
    safe to import the code once the major contributors (by volume) have
    completed ICLAs or SGAs.

I enumerated the licensing status of the contents of the grant tarball earlier
in this JIRA issue. Based on that report, the materials in the tarball should
all be permissible to host in the ASF repository.

The next thing that needs to happen is that a Mentor needs to unpack the
tarball into incubator/lucy/trunk/import/ (Mike McCandless has volunteered):

{quote}
    http://incubator.apache.org/guides/mentor.html#clean-up-best-practice

    It is therefore recommended that the initial source is (after being
    expanded from the archive) checked in as is into a special directory (
    $\{project}/trunk/import is suggested).
{quote}

Per Chris Mattmann's recommendation
([http://markmail.org/message/rjycemkktzd73m7s]), we should open a new issue
to track modifying the copyright and license headers, a la OODT-3. This issue
should remain open for now to track the outstanding grant forms.
