Proposition of new HTML website for ServiceMix based on Lukask ideas

Hi,

I have created a HTML project based on Lukasz idea
(https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SMX4-731). The menu is not yet
finalized (contain text) but before to continue and mount it in
servicemix-site using scalate, I would prefer to have your opinion
about that and remarks/comments.

https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/servicemix/sandbox/cmoulliard

Web page = ServiceMix-home.html

Charles Moulliard

I'd like to spend some time on that, so I'm going to start merging
both sites. The scalate one is a better starting point, so I plan to
start from there and merge some design from Charles's one.

You know that there is a version of the site based on Lukask ideas and
implemented using Scalate already in the sandbox?

https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/servicemix/sandbox/website20

It would make a good starting point.....

Another possible layout would be to have the menu float along with the
search box and three colored boxes so that it stay on the right.
If we have the small blue line extended at the same time, I think this would
be ok.

Hi JB,

I have used a liquid layout where the columns can float but this could
be changed easily depending what we prefer to do all together ;-)

Charles

Re: Proposition of new HTML website for ServiceMix based on Lukask ideas

Hi,

I have removed the HTML Table tags and replaced them by <div> tags and
CSS display: table, row, cell. The result is not yet finalised but you
can have a look to see how it looks like now !

See ServiceMix-home2.html page

http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/servicemix/sandbox/cmoulliard/

Regards,

Charles

Hi Gert,

If we remove the tables, what would you use instead - something like
that --> http://blog.innovativethought.net/2007/06/11/simulating-a-table-using-an-unordered-list/,
https://github.com/the-teacher/IE-css-table-emulate/blob/master/index.html

Hey Charles,

That's already a good step in the right direction - you moved all the text
styles and some of the images into the CSS to make the HTML a lot less
cluttered. I just wonder if we shouldn't take this one step further and
replace the table based layout by a div/css-based alternative to make it
easier to reproduce the same look and feel across projects and modules.
 Wdyt?

A few weeks ago, Guillaume also mentioned he was going to work on this - not
sure how far along he got, but we should make sure we're not all working on
the same thing here.

Hi,

I have updated the ServiceMix web site to move the styles from the
html page in style.css file. Your comments/remarks are welcome.

Hi Gert,

This is what I plan to do in the next step : extract styling stuffs
and place them in css files. But first, I would like to have a go/no
go - consensus from community before doing that investment. I will
check what I can do with right buttons - Would you like that the text
is defined according to div and keep the button = rectangle + picture
?

Re: Proposition of new HTML website for ServiceMix based on Lukask ideas

Posted by Gert Vanthienen <ge...@gmail.com>.
L.S.,

Thanks Charles for doing this new web design mockup! It's good bit
more 'colorful' than the basic proposal I came up with (reminds me to
stay away from web design and focus on development ;))!

Before we start implementing this, we should probably try to alter the
HTML code itself to a more contemporary HTML and CSS style. If we
want to reuse the same design for the website, the documentation and
the web console we will only benefit of the extra effort we have to do
right now to factor out as much as possible of the design into the
CSS. That way, any future improvements or changes we make just have
to be done in the CSS without having to copy all the inline styles and
the different tables used to layout things as well.

Also, I notice that the boxes on the right hand side are full images
right now. Would it be possible to extract the images from that and
just create real divs with those images and a background color?

Anyway, once again - nice work!

Gert Vanthienen
