   Looking at the docs, _I think_ this is possible only for `columns` parameter, not `filter` (there is a typo in your code: `filters`).  This test provides the best use of it in my opinion: https://github.com/apache/arrow/blob/c57115de8d9b844f1929f8395d29c61ca2269b24/python/pyarrow/tests/test_dataset.py#L449-L494
   
   What if you move the expression to the `columns` parameter, does it work?
