Subsets of large libraries under version control

Hello!

There are projects which use only a small subset of some big library (e.g. 
boost) and therefore it would be a good idea not to version control all of 
the library together with such projects. Can someone recommend a way to 
achieve this with subversion's branches-tags-trunk policy? The 
recommendation should allow for future additions of new subsets of the 
library to the same repository.
