prev/next images

Hi!

you can preview the prev/next widget using images at
http://domm.zsi.at/modperl-site-domm/

I attached a patch file and the four new images.

i have only arguments for this suggestion but i would vote
against it. i guess a breadcrumb to me is just a
"one"-thing. making it a "more"-things cnfuses me more than
it helps me. i like the idea of user friendliness with

stausbar - not very possible without scripting plus not very
userfriendly IMO
(besides some users can turn off the statusbar)

oops, I forgot about these. Can we make them as ALT tags + status bar maybe?

ok

true, so it'll take at most 2 clicks to get where you want on the long
pages. TOC + next function.

creating a more compete navigation bar

Posted by Stas Bekman <st...@stason.org>.
Now, after converting the [prev|up|next] to use images I think the next step is to do the same to the TOC link, i.e. replace with the image, ala allan's design. Though I think that both text 'TOC' and image in separate boxes of different color is confusing.

Another possibility is to have:

[toc] [prev|up|next]

with some space in between.

Also if you look at the current guide http://perl.apache.org/guide,
there is [search|download] as well.

So may be we put everything in one bar?

[prev|up|next] [search] [pdf|source]

(again using spaces to separate functionality)

search is not functional yet, but will be at some point. it's possible
that we will have more functional buttons. for example there will be
[split] button for the split version of the long doc, which I didn't
port yet.

To sum things up, I suggest to remove the download box, and choose from
these two options:

1.

1a. the following bar at the top and the bottom of each document:

[search] [pdf|source] [prev|up|next]

(prev|up|next) aligned to the right, as it shrinks when there is no prev
or next doc. and we want the bar look static when flipping between pages.

1b. the [toc] (+ may be other functions) repeated after each h1-h4 section.

[toc]

2. a single bar repeated after each h1-h4 section:

[toc] [search] [pdf|source] [prev|up|next]

of course other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

Looks good. Committed.

See the updated version online at the usual place, e.g.:
http://www.apache.org/~stas/modperl-site/docs/2.0/api/mod_perl-2.0/APR/PerlIO.html

Thanks, Thomas!

It'd be cool to have this widget stay in the same place when users flip
through documents of the same level. Since some titles are taking more
than one line, the widget moves.

I was thinking whether it'd be a good idea to move it to the very top
and merge with the breadcrumb.

Also to be symmetric, shouldn't we replicate breadcrumb at the bottom as
well?

I changed the images a little bit, inform me if you think I added to little
space.

very neat, Thomas!

I've only one request, can we add some more space after the word Prev
and before word Next? It's a little bit unballanced, if you see what I mean.

Thanks!
