client changes

Okay, Bruce, I think I've got most of that client stuff taken care of
now, take a look.

By the way, I didn't mean for the long list of concerns in my last
email to imply that your original change was no good.  It was overall
quite beneficial, and I certainly think the client is better off for
it.  I just wanted (and want) to stress the importance of abiding by
the conventions described in HACKING and used throughout the rest of
Subversion.
