While we are on the topic, check out this wise write up by mjd.

It starts with:

"I think programming language advocacy is a big problem, not just for the
Perl community, but for the larger programming community"

ends with:

  and incorporate new ideas, new memes, new metaphors, new interfaces,

  be difficult for some of you to swallow, but Java is not the
  enemy. Nor is Lisp, or Python, or Tcl. That is not to say that these
  languages don't have good and bad points. I am not a cultural

  noticed. :-)"

and lots of good thoughts in between.

After reading this article and applying mjd's words to what has been
discussed here, I think that the more right ones were those advocats who
suggested to approve mod_perl in all possible ways
(docs/code/docs/build/docs), and the less right ones were those who
bullied about other languaged/technologies as inferior to Perl/mod_perl.

So far Matt has asked whether someone is interested to help him to keep
take23 up to date, I doubt whether anybody has contacted Matt and offered
help.

The advocacy is definitely not about talking but *doing*.

Actually thats not true - the response has been great. For those who did
reply, I'm firefighting right now, so don't expect a fast reply, but maybe
one of the other editors will take care of those replies. Mostly we just
need articles now though, rather than more editors.
