It'll be a major undertaking as lots of internals have changed. Reviewing CHANGES.txt and MIGRATE.txt for each major version released between 3.x and 6.x would be a good start, but to be honest it may be easier to just learn how to implement the desired functionality with 6.x and replace your code entirely...
