Jars on Ibiblio that shouldn't be?

Hi,

I was just testing commons-email which depends on javamail and
activiation jars, and via a Maven build it work! It downloaded the
javamail and activation jars from ibiblio. However, should those jars
be there? Aren't there redistribution issues with Sun that prevent
them?

If these have been worked out then great! Those missing jars have been
an unending pain to deal with....

I was also wondering about this when I was attempting to write an
article on using Maven in the context of the <a
href="http://wicket.sf.net">Wicket</a> project. I stated that some jars
couldn't be downloaded from the central repo, and was just checking
which those were. I found them to my suprise, and had to alter the
article. :-)

I wanted to ask the list, but thought about 'waking sleeping dogs' ;-)

This seems to have been a mistake during some recent repository
shuffling. I've moved them away:
activation javamail jaxm jaxp jaxrpc jca jce jdbc jdo jms jndi saaj

This appears to be all of them.

Will look into safeguards on the repository to make sure this doesn't
happen in future. If for any reason they do turn up again, let us know
ASAP and we can check the sync logs to find out where they came from.

Note that ibiblio has some weird cache thing going on that removed files
take some time before they start to 404, so please check the directory
listing first if you think they are back.

Cheers,
Brett

Reading the thread, I don't see any resolve. Just people claiming not to
be a lawyer. ;-). I saw the JIRA issue closed as a 'NO FIX', so my guess
is the jars have to be removed.

Why should this be done? This has nothing to do with the issue at hand,
as sunsite is a _mirror_ of ibiblio, nothing more, nothing less.

I don't see it there.

Thus, maybe you should remove it from mirrors (eg
http://mirrors.sunsite.dk/maven)?

ah... no.

We can't put it on ibiblio because of this:

(i) you distribute the Software complete and unmodified and only bundled as part
of, and for the sole purpose of running, your Java applets or applications
("Programs"),

Do you intend to distribute your code with a Sun license?

(v) you only distribute the Software subject to
a license agreement that protects Sun's interests consistent with the terms contained
in this Agreement,

Do you intend to indemnify Sun if a lawsuit arises from it's use?

(vi) you agree to defend and indemnify Sun and its licensors
from and against any damages, costs, liabilities, settlement amounts and/or expenses
(including attorneys' fees) incurred in connection with any claim, lawsuit or action
by any third party that arises or results from the use or distribution of any and all
Programs and/or Software."

Fantastic.. I hate licensing issues, so when I saw them there, I too
thought about those sleeping dogs! But, I knew if it was a mistake and
I depended on them, I would get bit.

So, that is great news, and the way I read the license seems okay as
well. I think in Apache-land there has evolved a lot of FUD about
licensing, especially since are developers first, and lawyers second!

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by the property:
maven.repo.remote=http://mirrors.sunsite.dk/maven,http://www.ibiblio.org
/maven?

Is that something for all of Maven, or something you are suggesting for
commons-email?

Eric

Yes it's weird.
Both jars were upload on Nov 3rd.
I thought also that it was forbidden.
Is there someone who can check who uploaded these files.
