[jira] [Updated] (SPARK-48117) Spark Materialized Views: Improve Query Performance and Data Management
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-48117?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:all-tabpanel ]
Mich Talebzadeh updated SPARK-48117:
------------------------------------
Description:
{panel}
This Spark Improvement Proposal (SPIP) proposes the introduction of Materialized Views to Apache Spark. Materialized Views are pre-computed and optimized SQL queries that store the results for faster retrieval. Their inclusion would enhance Spark's capabilities by:
* *Improving Query Performance:* Materialized Views can drastically reduce query execution time by eliminating the need for repeated computations on the same data.
* *Enhancing Data Management:* They offer a way to pre-aggregate or transform data, making complex queries more efficient.
* *Simplifying Workflows:* Developers and analysts can leverage pre-defined views, streamlining data access and reducing development time.
Currently, users might resort to manual techniques like caching or temporary tables to achieve similar results. However, these approaches lack the efficiency, consistency, and management features offered by native Materialized Views.
This SPIP outlines the benefits, potential challenges, and implementation considerations for integrating Materialized Views into Spark. It aims to foster discussion within the Spark community and pave the way for a more robust data management experience.
