[jira] Created: (UIMA-447) explain ASF license for UIMA components

explain ASF license for UIMA components
---------------------------------------

                 Key: UIMA-447
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/UIMA-447
             Project: UIMA
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: Website
            Reporter: Michael Baessler
            Priority: Minor

explain for users and universities what it means to contribute UIMA components under the ASF license. Most universities are not familiar with the ASF license.

Maybe also explain how ASF license interacts with other licenses and what are the possibilities for universities or others to contribute.

There's a very interesting discussion going on about GPL on legal-discuss
right now, you may want to check that out. It's a morass that I don't want
to have to explain to anybody. The link to the June archive is
http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/www-legal-discuss/200706.mbox/browser
I was unable to figure out how to link to a specific thread. If anybody
knows how to do that, let me know.
