Deployment woes
I deleted my old pluto source tree that I've been learning and
developing against for a month or so, hoping that someone might have
fixed the multiple-taglibs bug by now, and checked out the jakarta-pluto
module. I installed maven (by the way, the installation page on the
pluto web site is now hopelessly out of date! It doesn't even mention
maven.), fiddled about a bit and eventually managed a "maven
fullDeployment" that seemed to go OK. I started tomcat (4.1.29) and all
was well with the /pluto/portal website.
Problems appeared when I invoked my ant "deploy" target from the
development directory of my current project, which basically calls the
old "build.sh deploy_portlets"... I'm now just starting to understand
what people have been complaining about for the past couple of weeks!
Little bits of things like .sh files not being executable were of course
easily fixed, but I am stuck now: the error message is:
> [exec] file:/root/jakarta-pluto/build/build.xml:350: Could not find file: prepareRun.properties
And indeed, a find finds no prepareRun.properties file underneath
jakarta-pluto. There *is* a prepareRun.properties.original which looks
as though it might work, I copy it to prepareRun.properties and try again:
> [exec] file:/root/jakarta-pluto/build/build.xml:629: /root/jakarta-pluto/temp/api not found.
This is a call to Deploy.java, and I haven't the heart to wade through
any more just yet, but it looks like the non-Mavenised build is now
comprehensively ****ed, despite what Scott T. Weaver put in his CVS for
2004-01-07 20:41:29.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Is there a particular version of the source that I should checkout? I am
currently following the advice from the website, which does not specify
a tag. Is this known not to work? Should I checkout a particular
version? Or do I have to (somehow) use Maven to deploy my own application?
I see that Other People have been having problems along these lines, and
that Craig Doremus allocated to producing a guide for deployment... Is
it ready? Nearly ready? Could I help (I've done lots of project and user
documentation, and built lots of websites)?
Cheers,
Gerard.
