> XML can be compressed to improve storage. In a disk constrained environment, storing the XML file in a compressed format would assist in lowering the storage needs. Other benefits may exists.
> The collection function could support reading .xml and .xml.gz files. The .gz would be compressed using standard methods and then uncompressed during query execution. Since compression would only be evaluated upon reading the files, the rest of the query would not be affected.
