speedup mystery
Hi -
Something odd just happened with my SA 3.0.2 setup -- I wonder if this
sounds like a recognizable symptom of something?
Ever since installation, my average scantime has been 15-45 seconds per
message. The scantime gradually increases, seeming like a memory leak,
until I restart spamd resets the number to about 15 seconds again. As a
result, I have been restarting spamd every 6 hours or so to keep
scantimes down. It's not a great system, but I haven't had time to turn
on debug logging and analyze the problem.
Then today my cron job notified me, when it tried to restart spamd as
usual:
"Could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Address already in use
(IO::Socket::INET: Address already in use)"
And then it seems to have restarted the daemon successfully. But
suddenly since then, my scantimes are down to a beautiful 5 second
average!
What happened? Was I running two instances of spamd all along? How is
that possible? And what was different today?
thanks,
Paul
