What is admin member in geode

Hello Team,

Could you help me to understand below logs? It declares all members as "Non-Admin" members while starting up server. Both Locators have been marked as "JMX Manager" for this.

What does actually "Admin member" mean?
Is it must to have 1 admin member?

[info 2017/08/29 15:18:57.454 EDT Server1 <main> tid=0x1] Admitting member <Host2XX(Locator2:23781:locator)<ec><v59>:1024>. Now there are 1 non-admin member(s).

[info 2017/08/29 15:18:57.456 EDT Server1 <main> tid=0x1] Admitting member < Host2XX (Server2:26352)<ec><v60>:1025>. Now there are 2 non-admin member(s).

[info 2017/08/29 15:18:57.457 EDT Server1 <main> tid=0x1] Admitting member < Host1XX (Locator1:7050:locator)<ec><v75>:1024>. Now there are 3 non-admin member(s).

[info 2017/08/29 15:18:57.457 EDT Server1 <main> tid=0x1] Admitting member < Host1XX (Server1:9150)<ec><v76>:1025>. Now there are 4 non-admin member(s).

Thanks,
Dharam

Hi Dharam,

There is a now-deprecated management API under org.apache.geode.admin. That API had the concept of creating an "admin member" which behaved somewhat differently than a regular member of the distributed system.

That API is deprecated and scheduled to be removed so all members should be non-admin members at this point, including locators.
