batch processing and automated workflow using cocoon

Hi,

Has anyone set up batch processing using Cocoon - not for off-line 
static web page development (which is what the CLI appears to be geared 
to) but for automatic workflow and management of more general XML 
transformations? I want to be able to configure automatic workflow but 
I'm not 100% sure the best way to do this.

For example, I may want images converted if they are of a particular 
type and at the same time passed through a generator that parses the 
EXIF metadata and outputs the XML which is in turn fed into another 
pipeline which collates XML generated from other pipelines in the same 
workflow...
