[users@httpd] CustomLog + my.csript problem?

Any idea why does Apache 4.0.44. kills a 
CustomLog "|/path/to/my.script" combined - with permissions root.root
as well as apache.nogroup

Version 1.3.22 worked flowless with the same script in httpd.conf 
The process is started but is killed as soon as the server gets a
request
