Good news: I got unblocked, I was able to make snakebite working with `sasl3` after a lot of time spent between swearing and crying :D, details in https://github.com/internetarchive/snakebite-py3/issues/8#issuecomment-625748266

The next step is to implement the missing bits in snakebite, hoping that I'll not find any pitfall like this one. Fingers crossed!

> Project: Apache Airflow
> Issue Type: Bug
> Components: build
> Affects Versions: 1.10.3
> Reporter: Mathew Wicks
> Priority: Major
>
> Currently you cannot install apache-airflow[kerberos] with Python 3.
> *Steps to reproduce: (For Ubuntu)*
> # Ensure you have the required build dependencies, _*sudo apt install libsasl2-dev libkrb5-dev*_
> # Create a new conda environment. _*conda create -n airflow_36 python=3.6*_
> # Activate the environment: _*conda activate airflow_36*_
> # Attempt to install _*pip install apache-airflow[kerberos]*_
> # **fails**
> The error is caused by trying to install python-krbV as a depednancy of snakebite[kerberos], as python-krbV does not support Python 3.
