RE: WELCOME

Good Afternoon Gentlemen

I am new to Kafka and am attempting to build Kafka ..so I downloaded latest kafka-0.9.0.0-src.tgz distro from

http://kafka.apache.org/downloads.html

and then built it with:

Kafka>gradlew build
org.apache.kafka.common.network.SslTransportLayerTest > testEndpointIdentificationDisabled PASSED
org.apache.kafka.common.network.SslTransportLayerTest > testClientAuthenticationRequiredUntrustedProvided PASSED
org.apache.kafka.common.network.SslTransportLayerTest > testClientAuthenticationDisabledUntrustedProvided PASSED
org.apache.kafka.common.network.SslTransportLayerTest > testNetReadBufferResize PASSED
org.apache.kafka.common.network.SslTransportLayerTest > testNetWriteBufferResize PASSED
org.apache.kafka.common.network.SslTransportLayerTest > testInvalidTruststorePassword PASSED
org.apache.kafka.common.network.SslTransportLayerTest > testApplicationBufferResize PASSED

org.apache.kafka.common.requests.RequestResponseTest > testSerialization PASSED
org.apache.kafka.common.requests.RequestResponseTest > fetchResponseVersionTest PASSED
org.apache.kafka.common.requests.RequestResponseTest > produceResponseVersionTest PASSED

RE: WELCOME

Posted by Martin Gainty <mg...@hotmail.com>.
waiting 24 hours for gradlew build to either compile and or produce jars is an excessive amount of time for a build to complete
attached is the main pom.xml with packaging=pom (identifying as parent pom) for project kafka
if your time is limited please drop attached main pom.xml into kafka folder. I will supply you with working pom.xml's for all of the child modules:	<modules> <module>connect</module> <module>tools</module> <module>log4j-appender</module> <module>examples</module> <module>core</module> <module>clients</module>	</modules>
I will be monitoring email during Presidents day weekend for comments or questionsThank You/
Martin Gainty

drop attached pom.xml into >kafka/connect/runtime

mvn compile
mvn package
you *should* package runtime-0.9.0.0.jar artifact in >kafka/connect/runtime/target folder

Let me know if you have any problems
Best Regards

RE: WELCOME

Posted by Martin Gainty <mg...@hotmail.com>.
drop attached pom.xml into >kafka/connect/runtime

mvn compile
mvn package
you *should* package runtime-0.9.0.0.jar artifact in >kafka/connect/runtime/target folder

Let me know if you have any problems
Best Regards

Re: WELCOME

Posted by Ewen Cheslack-Postava <ew...@confluent.io>.
If it's taking that long, you may be working on hardware (or a VM?) which
is too underpowered to run some of the tests reliably.

The README.md has instructions for how to build different components. In
your case you want

./gradlew core:test

Depending on your hardware, you may want to adjust the maximum parallelism
with -Dorg.gradle.project.maxParallelForks=X where X is the number of
parallel tests you want to run. That said, given how long they took it
sounds like you might only be running 1 at a time as it is.

RE: gradle

Posted by Martin Gainty <mg...@hotmail.com>.
a not so kind person dumped all the jars into kafka-0.9.0.0-src/core/build/dependant-libs-2.10.5 folder

as soon as installed all of the jars to maven repository kafka core compiled and produced a jar

Pom attached

RE: gradle

Posted by Martin Gainty <mg...@hotmail.com>.
gently placed gradle into the round file and used normal maven to compile kafka core when I encountered this error:

import joptsimple.*;
kafka/kafka-0.9.0.0-src/core/src/main/scala/kafka/tools/KafkaMigrationTool.java:[20,1] package joptsimple does not exist
does anyone know where joptsimple is supposed to be?

Thank You/
Martin
