XMLRPC Applet - PHP Server - SSL

Folks,

I am about to start a project where I will have a Java  Applet GUI talking to a a PHP XMLRPC server.

I would appreciate any advice or experience you can provide in this area.

I would like to stick with JDK 1.1.8 since most browsers seem to suport this.

Has anyone tried something like this?
