   @brodybits I don't have the time to make a plain reproduction project, but I can confirm that the fix @namello-zmtp suggested did indeed fix the error for me. His comment below the code snippet also seems to answer your 2nd bullet. 
   
   We are tied to cordova-ios v4.5.5 for now, so updating to v5.01 is not an option for us.
