gif downloading problem with caching apache-ssl

The gif image at
http://www.privateequitycentral.net/images/ci_title.gif
is an example of a "problem" image.

When attempting to view this image via an Apache proxy, the image
downloads as a zero-length file.

If the proxy is bypassed, then image downloads and displays properly.

This is the debian version of apache-ssl, 1.3.26-1, however the problem
has been around for me for several releases I believe.

I can't find any mention of this in bugzilla.

Any ideas?
