Open Office not opening

Hello,
I use open office on my mac,
However unfortunately it now won’t open which is highly infuriating as I have a crucial report in which I need to submit tonight.
When I try and open it, it comes up with the following message
‘The last time you opened OpenOffice, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?’
It then gives the option to reopen or not to. However which ever button i click nothing happens.
I have tried to re download oppenoffice a number of times but this message will not go away.
Please tell me what is going on and please resolve it as I am highly dissatisfied with this product which until now I have always trusted and found reliable.
Thanks,
Elinor Kent

That is a very GOOD idea, considering the number of questions requiring the advice of “remove folder xxx from the folder yyy”, something that has fooled many Mac users of Openoffice, me included.

My impression is that the question on the list requiring the standard response has appeared at least more than once per day lately. If we consider that as a guess that less than 10% of users (maybe less) who have met that condition and have reached the list and asked for a solution, the solution is very much overdue.

It is a Mac OS X dialog box, not an OpenOffice dialog box.

Even brighter idea: it should delete the problematic folder by itself,
without user intervention. And good news: Herbert already implemented
this for OpenOffice 4.1 (coming next month), so we'll get around this
Mac OS X quirk. See

BRIGHT IDEA: was: Re: Open Office not opening]

Posted by Tom Panfil <ta...@verizon.net>.
The next point rev release of Open Office should include a modified
version of the useless dialog box which has bedeviled so many users.

It should say something like:

You need to delete the folder "org.openoffice.script.savedState". It is
in the "Saved Application State" folder in your User/Library.

See this post on the user forum for detailed instructions:

You need to delete the folder "org.openoffice.script.savedState". It is in the "Saved

That would be a folder? I think that is what you mean. There are 3 folders in my “save application state” folder none of them have the org.openoffice.script.savestate. I am new to Mac have owned Windows computers before. Is there a way to completely remove open office and start all over? I have changed the security to allow all apps to install. I did one yesterday from TD ameritrad and installed the short cut on my desktop. Thanks for your support

no, 4.0.1 is current, 4.1 is beta.

it's not just in the library, but in the subdirectory 'saved application state'. also, it per se is a directory rather than a file.

thanks, I have by some mistake installed ver 4 which I think is now beta. It appears the current version is 3.3. I searched the library on my Mac and cannot find this file you reference. Using search have not found either. Is there some other file. Could you a advise what folder it may be in? I appreciate your assistance

A common error.
Open your finder.
Seelct Go menu
Prest ALT and select your Library
Find the ORG.openoffice.script.savedstate and put it in the garbage.

Those information are available on open office blog.
