[jexl] commons website
i'm keen to get jexl a proper commons website now that it's been promoted.
i need to modify a few files in jexl and so i'm going to add myself to the
list of committers unless - that is - someone wants to jump in with an
objection about now...

Agreed. I'd like to figure out a way we can share this information across
all maven-built commons components if we can (particularly things like the
getting involved links etc). I'm not sure of a good solution just yet
though...

i'm not sure whether we've been walking a bit at cross purposes (or not).
i was talking about just the jexl website. (this has a copy of the commons
nav-bar.) i'm like the actual commons site the way it is now :)
i agree that some guidelines for the websites of maven/centipede generated
components would be useful but i don't think that there's much chance of
generating interest or consensus on a mailing list. maybe adding a
document to the website would be a better plan. i - for one - would be
likely to measure the site against a set of good practices when creating a
basic website for a new component or when creating a new release for an
existing component.

I think it's more a problem of all the other Commons projects with
maven/forrest like l&f's. I mailed a proposed basic info-arch to Jakarta
General, but I suspect that I'm the only one with an itch for information
architecture. I really need to quit this coding lark and go learn to be a
librarian.
As Commons is getting a bit more varied as a group, simplifying the
Commons site makes sense. Maintaining labelling and a common-set of
required information is still needed though.

I think the Commons website is slowly gravitating to a project not having
a link to its siblings. So +1 to removing the nav-bar elements linking to
projects.
Are you planning to remove the other elements? Community, Chart etc?

The commons site is a page for a container project. The jexl page is a
page for a project without any container-ship. They should look different.
Not that I can see any difference between the two apart from the look and
feel. Did Jexl use to be the same l&f as the front page?
On a tanget, shouldn't the logo in the top-left be Jakarta Commons and not
Jakarta for a Jakarta Commons site?

My liking is just one data point. I was excited to see jexl promoted
to be with the 'adult projects' :) and went to the commons site, and
then clicked into jexl. The whole 'feel' changed. No judgment offered
on the maven look but it was the abrupt transition that got me.
I've been rather busy* lately, and haven't been tracking things - was
there discussion about making the looks of mavenized things to be like
commons, or commons to be like maven, or have I just tossed a match
into something I shouldn't have?

sorry about that geir - i couldn't find a jexl.xml in jakarta-
commons/xdocs so i assumed that you were using maven.
i've copied jakarta-commons/jexl/xdocs/index.html to jakarta-commons/xdocs/
jexl.xml and regenerated the commons site - so hopefully now it should be
more to your liking.

Re: [jexl] commons website

i've updated the website.
jexl's site has some features which are a bit unusual for a maven
generated commons site. it's side bar is an old copy of the main commons
navigation bar. also, it's project.xml does not extend ../project.xml.
i'm not too bothered about the second bit but i'd like to remove the
commons-style elements from the jexl navigation bar since i think that we'
ll be fighting a losing battle to keep them up consistent with the main
site. if no one shouts, i'll probably do this sometime.

There was some talk on taglibs-user about EL "empty" only working with
java.util.Map and java.util.List.
here's a (simple) patch for jexl that makes ASTEmptyOperator work for all
Collections.
