Thanks Istvan.

For others, we had a big issue which was ultimately tracked down to clashing Thrift versions (Phoenix was bringing in a recent version, but another project was still bringing in old versions). Thrift doesn't handle this at all (have to have the same version on the classpath). This should help make life easier for anyone who isn't using Tephra.
