> Commit b0f59ef7c8b3a1088183c40691df7f3fd10ff864 for DAFFODIL-934 caused a noticable degradation in performance. Usually this was pretty small, around 3-7%, but sometimes could be as high as 20%. This changes adds more work, so it's not too surprising, but we should try to make some optimizations to see if we can reduce the performance hit.
