[jira] Commented: (AXIS2C-721) Requesting step-by-step guides

Senaka Fernando commented on AXIS2C-721:
----------------------------------------

Hi Dushshantha,

What I mean is, since, we want to make Axis2/C user friendly, it is better to have a guide that gradually builds a service/client from the most basic "hello world", into a bit complex service. The features should be added one by one, so that the user will not see all at once. The guide is fine for a person who is familiar with how Axis2/C works. That means a person who understands how the various components of the engine interacts.

But, our user guide also should cater for the needs of folks who know nothing about the Axis2/C Framework to write a service/client.

The issue does not lie in the content of our documentation. It is the way it is being presented I guess.

Just let me point out a fact. For instance, someone who is new to Axis2/C, and to web services in general, will wonder what we mean by XML payload at the very beginning. To see the payload you must run the service and the client. Then the user can use a tool like TCPMon and see the exchanged payloads. We also, can add some screen shots (I don't think it would be a harm).

I believe the user guide is a bit advanced to read and understand for a new user. You need to approach someone who knows C, but knows nothing about Axis2/C.

I'm not asking someone to write a book, but, I guess we could do some modification to the existing doc.

Thanks,
Senaka

P.S. also note that the issue is a wish and not a bug. :-)

> It would be great if someone could create a step-by-step guide in creating a service and a client, instead of just adding an example in the manual. What I mean is an example which is gradually built from the most basic step into a really advanced implimentation.
