new Jira filter: COCOON-open-with-patch

Recently we added a new Jira field "Patch available".

In the old Cocoon Bugzilla we used to ask people to
add PATCH to the Issue Summary name. We also used
to have a reminder email sent to the mailing list
every week to remind committers to attend to patches.

Today i visited every issue that already had
PATCH in the name or mentioned patch in the
Description, and ticked the "Patch available" field.

That filter is COCOON-open-with-patch
http://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/IssueNavigator.jspa?requestId=12310771

How can we get Jira to send that to dev@cocoon
once per week?

So did you login as that user?

The only options that i can see are
"Personal Subscription" and the *-developers
groups.

Cannot see a way via my Jira Administration.

I want to set one up for Forrest.

Well, the "cocoon" user exists already, and he's the one that
"receives" the Jira notifications through the mailing list... It's
also the default assignee of all bugs...

The group subscription will send emails to each one in the group,
individually, thus jumping the mailing lists alltogether. That's the
way Jira works...

Don't even think about it! :-)

Fantastic thanks. One patched bug has been closed already.

So i gather that you created a user 'cocoon' and
logged in as that. Cheat :-)

I had hoped that Jira had a better way, but it seems
that one can only have a personal subscription or
the whole group "cocoon-developers".

Hey that would be a way to get the patch queue down :-)

Thanks -- but I see no "Edit" link anywhere on the screen. Do I need

How about granting the 'Reporter' role the permission to edit (and
resolve/close/delete) issues? Generally the reporter is the one wanting
to attach things.

Yep... Can't give it to *world* unfortunately, or the first idiot who
checks it out is likely to screw up our entire repo...

I'm inclined, though, to give away membership to the Jira group also
to non-committers, people working for companies that use Cocoon,
subscribers to the mailing list that don't have privileges, and so on
and so forth...

Or we might give it to all Jira users, at least there's a
registration behind it, and the email address must be validated
before logging in for the password thinghy...

Up to you guys..

I've added a feature request:

http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-9516

It should be possible to implement as a custom field too.

I have a personal filter for Forrest that is
a workaround for that lack. It searches for the
word "attachment". However it gets too many
unrelated issues, e.g. issues with just screenshots
or error listings etc.

Yeah, it's not "fantastic" let's say... There should be really an
option to search for issues with attachments, rather than relying on
a "patched" flag in the issue itself...

If that is the case then it's a problem for us non-committers who like
to contribute by creating and attaching patches to issues. Without
permissions to set the Patch Available flag, our contributions are
likely to go unnoticed.

I guess this was already a problem when you used the [PATCH] keyword in
the issue title, as that would require permissions to edit the issue as
well, correct?

IIRC "edit" option is available to committers. Is this correct, Pier?

Follow the "Edit" link of the issue you want to change. There is a section
"Other Info" containing a checkbox field "Patch available".

How does one go about ticking that field when attacing patches to
existing bug reports? I don't see it anywhere in the UI, except on the
Create New Bug screen. I hope I'm not just missing it. Maybe it's
something to do with my level of permissions?

In particular I'm trying to add "Patch available" to
COCOON-1753 which has a patch already attached but did not have [PATCH]
in the title (sorry, my mistake).
