Browsing Multiple Respositories
We need to create a dozen or so repositories.
We have a directory on the server, say /srv/www/svn/
This is configured using this version of the <location> directive:
<Location /svn/>
SVNParentPath /srv/www/svn/
DAV svn
</Location>
We know this allows us to create multiple repositories in this
directory but it does not allow us to browse the <hostName>/svn/
either in a browser or using a client (we use TortoiseSVN on windows).
We know we can create individual repositories using the following directives...
<Location /svn/repo1>
DAV svn
SVNPath /srv/www/svn/repo1/
</Location>
<Location /svn/repo2>
DAV svn
SVNPath /srv/www/svn/repo2/
</Location>
...that would allow us to browse the /svn/ directory in a browser BUT
1 ) We have to change the apache .conf file every time we add a repository
2 ) We can't "browse" the /svn/ folder using the TortoiseSVN client
Is there something we can do?

Richard,
Your best ( and only? ) chance is to wait for release of Subversion 1.3,
in which a new 'List all repositories in this SVNParentPath' page is
added in the web interface.
RC4 of Subversion 1.3 has been released this week, so probably the final
version will be released later this year.
Regards,
Lieven.

As far as I know SVN 1.3 will allow to browse repos
under SVNParentPath natively, i.e. via mod_dav_svn.
Release is planned for the late of December.

But the OP wants *multiple* reps under <host>/svn/<customer> (to take
your example)

By using SVNParentPath, you don't have to tell Apache about new,
changed, deleted reps. Very nice.

It's your poor MUA...

subversion mailing list concerns?!

is it possible to improve the subversion users mailinglist?
it would be great if I could just reply directly to the
subversion ml and not have to "reply to all" and delete
the unnecessary adresses,,,

The reason it works for you is that you have one repository whose
path is specified with SVNPath. Subversion is designed to show you
things inside the repository. Richard has multiple repositories, the
parent of which is specified with SVNParentPath. The directory
specified with SVNParentPath is not a repository, and Subversion <
1.3.0 is not designed to show you things that aren't in repositories.
Richard should not use SVNPath because he does not want to host one
repository; he wants to host multiple repositories.
You can of course write a (PHP|Perl|CGI|Ruby|Python|...) script to
read the contents of the directory pointed to by SVNParentPath and
output that as an HTML page, and indeed such a script exists (or
existed) somewhere on the TortoiseSVN web site for some reason, but
with Subversion 1.3.0 around the corner it's probably not worth the
bother anymore.

Because the mailing list administrators subscribe to this viewpoint:

why doesn't it allow you to browse repositories? I've got the
same config and it works fine... got one rep for all of our
customers that looks like
<host>/svn/<customer>/<project-name>
and it works fine, maybe you should use "SVNPath" instead of
"SVNParentPath" which I've never used (what is it good for)?
why not just 'normal' SVNPath, i.e.
SVNPath D:\repository
