[jira] [Commented] (JENA-1250) Upgrade text search to latest Lucene

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JENA-1250?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=15632591#comment-15632591 ]

Osma Suominen commented on JENA-1250:
-------------------------------------

Would you like to continue with this, despite that you were able to get your completion service working with the existing jena-text code base? It would be a waste to throw away all the good work done on this.

The current code works with Lucene 5.5.3, we could at least aim for merging that into jena-text. Lucene 6 has some additional issues to sort out - it seems that also jena-spatial needs some changes, it will need a new dependency (jena-spatial-extras) and there has been some package renames that need to be addressed in the jena-spatial code.

Minimum would be to do the VER + other cleanup and then make a PR against apache/jena master. I could then make sure it gets merged into Jena after the 3.1.1 release. Would you like to do this?

> We are currently at Lucene 4.9.1 ,
> which is quite outdated compared to latest Lucene, which is 6.2.1 .
> Note that there is project to add a simple completion feature in addition to existing simple search.
> But it would be better to do that on an updated Lucene dependency .
