Hi,

Just wanted to mention that we are working on a way to run Trafodion on
Apache HBase, without using a distro, but it is taking a bit longer than we
would like. I wouldn't promise this for the first Apache release but still
hope that with some luck we will have a description on how to do this. It
will also require some code changes. I've created
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TRAFODION-1484 to keep track of this
work.

Ming and Eason have agreed to help, so I hope we will be able to make
progress.

I would advocate releasing early and as often as possible.

The Foundation is going to be primarily concerned at this stage that your
releases can meet the Foundation release policies. These necessitate a high
level of attention to detail regarding transitive licensing and build and
packaging process. Incubating projects typically require several release
attempts before getting it right. Until you get this right, the IPMC won't
ack your releases. Therefore, any other measure of fitness to release
doesn't matter much at this point.

RE: Please review September podling status report

Thanks for the guidance, St.Ack. The nice looking features are obviously one
aspect, but the other aspect we wanted to ensure with the Trafodion release
is its quality. Our regression library needs to be augmented and of course,
we need to plow through and address some of the more critical JIRAs. Based
on that, one early proposal for a release (and I see now as perhaps very
conservative based on your comment) is 2~3 months. But this is where we lean
on the community, and the mentors, to better help guide this project to a
decision.

Atanu

On release date, the sooner the better. I'd say just making a release form
incubator is reason enough to cut a release nevermind the nice looking
features you have coming.

Would be cool if running on apache hbase were possible on first trafodion
release from incubator but I would not make this a blocker.

Re: Please review September podling status report

Thank you Atanu, Stack, Dave, Pierre and Andrew for your kind words and
review. I have made the suggested changes and placed the report at
https://wiki.apache.org/incubator/September2015#preview

Next to growing the community, scheduling the next release would be our
primary concern I suppose.

We have a few cool features in (since the previous release) that can be
used to anchor a new release. My favorites are
* Java TMUDFs
* Multiple column families for a single table
* Index maintenance improvements (both trickle load and bulk load)
* Costing improvements for Insert/Update/Delete
* OSIM tool to collect environment used by SQL compiler, useful for
debugging plan quality issues
* TM support for certain DDL operations
* Several performance improvements in compiler and executor
* Column level privileges
* ISO datetime format support
* Skip and log error rows during bulk load
* .... others

We have to get a count of issues resolved since 1.1 (not due to LaunchPad
migration, but really resolved)
We do have have about 5 blocker and 85 critical issues in JIRA open (that
re not in the build-infrastructure component).
Everyone please chime in on features that I have missed. I just did a quick
scan of the commit log. No omission is intentional.
Also what date do you have in mind for the next release, given what we have
done on what the bug queue looks like?

Thank you
Suresh
