[jira] [Commented] (FLINK-25368) Use AdminClient to get offsets rather than KafkaConsumer

Martijn Visser commented on FLINK-25368:
----------------------------------------

Thanks for the comment on needing to have a FLIP because of the @PublicEvolving annotation. One thing that I would also like to understand in a FLIP is what this means with regards to which versions of the Kafka Client we would support. Would there be a minimum version requirement for Kafka brokers/clients?

> `AdminClient.listOffsets` is provided in Kafka 2.7, In the future more `OffsetSpce` types will be added to it, for example, OffsetSpec.MaxTimestampSpec is added in Kafka 3.0. so it's better to substitute `KafkaConsumer` with `AdminClient`.
